With the Iran war raging, it’s hard to see how Trump and Xi can make any real progress on trade when they’re so divided on the Middle East.
Taiwan is a red line for China, and Trump’s recent moves in the Iran conflict only make Xi more wary of US intentions.
I doubt these talks will lead anywhere—too many hot-button issues like Iran and tech on the table, and both leaders are stubborn.
Interesting that Xi invited Trump to Beijing despite the shadow of Iran; maybe China sees a chance to mediate or carve out a deal.
The Iran war is a huge distraction. How can they focus on tariffs and semiconductors when US troops are in combat near China’s interests?
