“If now everyone is rushing to isolate Rwanda simply because the Americans have done so, there is little chance of persuading Rwanda to adopt a cooperative policy.” In an exclusive interview with FRANCE 24, RFI and TV5Monde, French President Emmanuel Macron called for dialogue with Rwanda and DR Congo

Macron’s approach of dialogue over isolation is smart, but after years of failed talks, what makes him think Rwanda will suddenly cooperate just because France asks nicely?
It’s easy for Macron to call for “dialogue” from Paris, but he’s not the one dealing with M23 rebels crossing the border every week. DRC needs action, not more summits.
If Macron really wants peace in the Great Lakes, he should start by addressing France’s own colonial legacy in Rwanda and the role it played in the 1994 genocide. Words aren’t enough.

So France is going against the US playbook on Rwanda? Bold move, but Kagame has heard all this before. Maybe Macron should focus on getting M23 to disarm first before asking Kigali for concessions.
