France’s health minister said on Tuesday that there was “no evidence” of widespread hantavirus circulation in France and that officials were “rather reassured” – although not completely certain – that the strain identified on the MV Hondius cruise ship had not mutated.

Good to hear the health minister is reassured, but I still wonder how they can be so sure the MV Hondius strain didn’t mutate without more testing.

The minister says ‘no evidence’ of widespread circulation, but that doesn’t mean it’s not spreading quietly. Hope they’re monitoring more than just cruise ships.
I was on a cruise last month and now I’m paranoid. Glad officials are checking, but ‘rather reassured’ isn’t exactly confidence-inspiring.
Hantavirus is no joke; remember the 2012 Yosemite outbreak? Let’s hope France’s surveillance is thorough enough to catch any cases early.
It’s a relief there’s no sign of widespread spread, but I’d like to see the actual data. ‘No evidence’ can sometimes mean ‘we haven’t looked hard enough.’
