PRESS REVIEW – Tuesday, May 12: As France records its first hantavirus case, the government says it is following health guidelines “to a tee”. In Britain, the press echoes calls by MPs for Prime Minister Keir Starmer to step down, but he is staying put for the moment. The Cannes Film Festival opens with one difference this year: the absence of a major Hollywood film. Plus, the Guardian tells us that this summer’s aesthetic is all about the “hot divorcee”!

So France is taking strict measures for hantavirus but they said ‘this is not Covid’? Let’s hope they’re not underestimating it like they initially did with the coronavirus.
It’s good the government is following health guidelines to a tee, but I wonder how quickly they’d act if cases spike like they did with Covid.
First hantavirus case and already cruise ship restrictions? Seems a bit overkill, but after Covid, I guess they’re not taking any chances.
Interesting that the press is more focused on Starmer stepping down and the Cannes Film Festival than on this new virus. Priorities, anyone?
