Tens of thousands of Argentines took to the streets Tuesday in Buenos Aires to protest libertarian President Javier Milei’s deep cuts to the budgets of public universities. The fourth major demonstration over university budgets since Milei took office in December 2023 came a day after it emerged that his government is planning further cuts to education and health spending.

I was at the march in Buenos Aires yesterday. It’s heartbreaking to see Milei slashing university budgets when education is the only way out of poverty for many.
Milei promised to fix the economy, but cutting education and health spending won’t help anyone. These fourth protests show people aren’t backing down.
Why is Milei targeting universities instead of wasteful government spending elsewhere? My cousin can barely afford his classes now.

Finally, someone taking a chainsaw to bloated public spending. The unions and students just want to keep their cushy subsidies.
These cuts will hit low-income students hardest. My friend had to drop out last semester after her scholarship was reduced.
