Pro-Russian accounts are claiming that Sergeant Bin Chen and Corporal Axel Delplanque “vanished” in Odesa, Ukraine, during an underwater mission. While it is true that these two French service members recently lost their lives, the circumstances of their deaths have no connection to any Russian attack.

It’s frustrating how easily disinformation spreads. Sgt. Bin Chen and Cpl. Axel Delplanque died, but claiming they were killed by a Russian attack in Odesa is completely baseless.
I read those pro-Russian claims about an underwater mission. Why would two French soldiers be diving in Odesa anyway? The real story here is how quickly fake news gets amplified.
So the soldiers did die, but not from a Russian attack. That’s a key distinction. The Kremlin bots just can’t resist exploiting tragedies for propaganda.
RIP to the two French soldiers, but we need to be careful not to let Russia twist their deaths into a false narrative about NATO involvement in Ukraine.
